Five of the Scariest Villains of the 90’s

The 90’s had some of my favorite animated movies and TV series of all time, and suffice to say it also had some bang up villains. I thought it’d be great to list five of the scariest villains of the 90’s that tormented heroes on TV and in the movies.

What were some of your favorites?

5. Jafar – Aladdin
Jafar was a hideous and conniving monster who, in the end of “Aladdin” finally became what he’d been the entire time. Never was there a more horrendous villain in a contemporary Disney film (Yes, he’s worse than Skar or six) that craved power, omniscience, and omnipotence and would have done whatever it took to seize it. I’m still not sure which form of his was worst, the giant snake, or the muscle bound red genie. In either case, he’s a banner Disney baddie for the decade.

4. Slappy the Dummy – Goosebumps the Series
Slappy the Dummy is just downright creepy and has been consistently one of the worst baddies from RL Stine’s Goosebumps series. From a five book saga, to the TV show, to the feature film in the mid aughts, Slappy is a villain to be reckoned with on his own, but when the enchantment is read, he becomes cognizant of his behavior and begins wreaking havoc on his owners. It’s no wonder he’s been the most popular baddie of the “Goosebumps” universe. Little known fact: My sister was terrified of Slappy as a child.

3. Candle Jack – Freakazoid!
He who shall not be named is one of the best villains of the “Freakazoid!” for the simple fact that is mentioned by name he creeps up on you and kidnaps you. Although the character was really only appears in one segment during one episode, he’s made enough of a ripple to garner a big fan base. I wish the show lasted long enough to grant him a few more appearances and even earning a spot as a super villain.

2. Toy Man – Superman: The Animated Series
Toy Man was violent, and vindictive entity who uses his inventions and toys to strike down the gangsters that made his life a living hell. With the doll face mask that keeps a perpetual blank grin on his face, Toy Man turns almost any machine in to a weapon, from a giant rubber duck, toy airplanes, and yes, he even turns a super ball in to a deadly projectile. His crimes have gotten so terrible in the DCAU hat he almost gets Wonder Woman to murder hi.

1. Him – Powerpuff Girls
We all know who “Him” is. Everyone in Townsville knows who “Him” is. The Powerpuff Girls know who “Him” is which is why they’re consistently terrified whenever he appears with the intent to battle them or contribute to their misery. He’s so much more a cerebral villain than a lot of Powerpuff Girls’ other baddies, as he’s prone to committing to some psychological torment on them that they simply can not topple. Even worse when he’s defeated it’s not because the girls beat him, but because he’d either taken pity on them or become so bored that he’d called off his
